Snow-Snake in Harrison, MI

We golfed here Sunday on the way home from up north. I haven't golfed here since last year and I still really like this course. It's a little on the tight side and there was a lot of leaves so I knew we'd lose a lot of balls and we did...but I still like the course! It's a ski resort so there's lots of elevations which I like, there's just the right amount of bunkers and water to make it challenging and every time I've golfed here it's been in good condition and well kept. They have some nice long par 5s and some really challenging par 3s. The picture on the right is one of the par 3s...the tree is almost blocking the green...the flag is to the left of the tree. There's a bathroom/refreshment stand accessible from several holes. (We had chicken salad there that was excellent!) There's a small lake/pond in the middle where about 5 holes meet that makes this course interesting. The trees were beautiful this time of year even though the leaves were killer! I'd like to make sure we golf this course every year.

Forest Dunes, Roscommon, MI

Golfed here today on an outing...loved it! Plan to come back next year. One of Michigan's premiere courses. The course was in great shape and the weather was beautiful. The outing was really nice, even though 57 (sure!) won. Everything about the course was great, the fairways, the greens, the cart girl, the food, everything...left is a picture of one of the halfway house on the course. It had a fireplace! The other bathroom on the course was really nice with slate tile on the walls. The course itself didn't have any holes with elevations (like I enjoy) but there were lots of challenges, water, sand, dead areas, trees, hidden greens, sloping fairways, everything you could think of. The layout of the course was very well thought out...we rarely saw another player even though the outing was full!

Apple Mountain, Freeland, MI

Golfed here yesterday...another beautiful course! Michigan has so many nice courses. We paid $35 a person to golf here...and it was well worth it. Although the greens and tee boxes had been aerated on Monday, it wasn't too bad putting. The fairways were in OK condition for so late in the year. They had lots of nice holes with lots of hazards. Two holes had huge waste hazards. The only problem is my skycaddie wasn't working so we weren't aware of all these hazards! The starter warned us of some of them though. A couple holes were on the ski "mountain" so they had nice elevations. Hole 5 (picture) was a par 3 that my husband birdied, with an audience yet! There were frequent bathrooms (not port a johns) and the cart girl was around often too. They had a "half way" house serving hotdogs and sandwiches also. The only problem was we were behind the slowest foursome ever so it seemed to take forever to finish. We ate at the clubhouse after and the food there was great. Would definitely love to come here again!

Eaglesticks, Zanesville, OH

Golfed at Eaglesticks yesterday...another great course! The course is right off a main street so I didn't have high expectations. However, it was really fun. It's very women friendly because it's a smaller course (6500 from the tips but 4200 for women). In fact my husband played the blue and on one of the holes my tee box was 200 yards in front of his! I was able to par several holes and even birdied a par 4! They had aerated the greens so that was kind of rough and they were working on some of the women's tee boxes which also made it a little hard. It was not in the condition of Longaberger however it was in pretty good condition. Although the holes were close they were very well situated. The course was very crowded so we were right behind the foursome in front of us and the trio behind us always joined as at the next tee box! But other than that we really saw other folks. Almost every hole had great elevation and there was lots of water and sand. Loved it! However because of the elevation there was lots of walking up and down hills and I did get quite tired. There were frequent restrooms and the cart girl was around often (though she was never off the phone!) We got a sandwich in the clubhouse which was small but very good. I would love to golf this course again!
