Eagle Crest, Ypsilanti, MI

Golfed at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti today. The course is part of Eastern Michigan University. It's a really nice course with lots of challenges...narrow fairways, trees, lots of water, sand, doglegs, etc. It has some really nice elevated tees also. The women's tee boxes were a little out of shape...it was hard to find a level spot to hit from...but the course was mostly in really nice condition. The sand was really nice & soft. The greens were a little rough though. No bathrooms on the back nine - they were "out of order"???? And no cart service yet. We do want to go back soon even though the course was kind of hard for me...I lost 2 balls on one hole!

Farmington Hills Golf Club

Golfed at at Farmington Hills Golf Club this morning...made me mad right off the bat by saying, you're now a foursome...we're putting someone with you. I hate when they don't even ask...just say it. I said "if you made a dinner reservation and they sat you with someone else, would that be OK with you?"...he said it's not my fault, it's them inside... I don't really mind gofling with others but it bugs me when they don't even ask...

Anyway the course was nice, in good shape. Kind of a smaller course and a little tight but would go back again. Women's tees were nicely kept and the bathrooms were open and in good shape. They had some nice stuff in the pro shop with good prices. AND a nice golfers special to eat, 1/2 a turkey wrap with a bag of chips and pop or water for $5. It was cold so I got coffee with Bailey's in it and the waitress put in a healthy dollop of Bailey's!

Woodside Meadows, Romulus, MI

We wanted to do a quick 9 holes yesterday so we drove to Wyandotte Shores without making a tee time. We've done that occasionally in the past and never had a problem. It wasn't crowded but we were told they were all booked! I was very surprised cause there weren't many cars there and no one waiting...

So we drove over to Woodside and of course, got right in. They are doing a lot of renovations which is a good thing. A couple of the holes didn't even have ladies tee boxes, we just golfed off the fairway. But it looks like they're building some tee boxes. A lot of the tee boxes they have now are so uneven you're always standing in a hole! But you can almost always get on this course and at least swing a club...

Woodlands of Van Buren, Wayne, MI

Golfed at Woodlands of Van Buren on Sunday. Bathrooms weren't open...I never know what they're waiting for. They say they don't want the pipes to freeze but I don't think that'll happen anymore. But at least the port-a-pottys are still clean. Course was in OK condition. It's not one of my favorites but it wasn't crowded and weather was OK so all-in-all, a good day.

What this is...

I am a golf addict. I golf all the time, anywhere, with anyone. And I am a woman. I noticed there are a lot of us out there...even though it's still considered, it seems, more of a man's sport. Golf is a game that anyone can play, no matter what your age, your size or your sex. And we can be just as good at it as most men. But there a lot of men, and a lot of golf courses, that don't think so or, at least, don't want to admit it.

So I thought that when I find a golf course that's especially nice to women (or especially not nice!) I'd write about it so other women golfers will know where to go - and where not to go. I hope other women will also start writing so I'll know what courses to avoid! Although, I admit, I do go to women "unfriendly" courses sometimes because of my husband...he does go to courses I love, so occasionally I have to go to courses he loves, no matter how much they disregard women golfers.
