Durham Lakes Golf & Country Club, Atlanta, GA

Golfed here Thursday, November 18th. Again, I was surprised by the condition of the fairways, however, the greens were in much better shape than yesterday. It was kind of colder than I expected but I still enjoyed this course very much. Lots of pretty holes, lots of water. Not as much elevation as yesterday but still really nice. There was no turn, no cart girl and no bathrooms so that was not good. I hope that this was just because it was so late in the season. There wasn't really a clubhouse either, which surprised me because it is a "country club".

Hickory Ridge Golf Course, Meansville, GA

Golfed here on Wednesday, November 17th. This was a very interesting course. I was surprised that the course was not still really green and in great shape because the season was still going in Georgia, ya'd think. I really enjoyed the course even though the fairways and greens were not in the best of shape. But there was lots of elevations, which I love, and lots of water which is fun. Would love to play the course in the summer to see if the fairways and greens were better. The clubhouse was just built and they were in the process of setting it up. They had to "get hotdays ready" for us, which were cooked in a crockpot with water and ready when we made the turn. The six pack we got at the turn was in bottles, which surprised the heck out of me. But I think it will be really nice when it's all set up.

Thorne Brothers at Lilac, Newport, MI

Golfed here Wednesday for the first time this year. They've done alot of work at this course but they still need to do alot more. It's a meadow-like golf course. The first 9 holes are pretty up & down - the back 9 are prettier and more challenging. The sand was hard as cement and some of the water was really just dried mud. Some of the tee boxes and greens were pretty rough too. But it is late in the year so hopefully it will be better next year. The port-a-johns were locked so thank goodness it's not a really long course. BUT, we paid $15/person to golf and $9.50 for 2 hot dogs, 2 bags of chips and 6 beers...can't beat that! Will go back next year and see the improvements!

The Founders Club at Pawley's Island

Golfed here on Tuesday, November 2nd. What a different course! The pro shop guy told us it was about 2 1/2 years old. He explained it was a very different type of course, almost desert style. Golf paths were at a minimum, wastelands served as the cart paths. So it was kind of odd at times - it felt like we were driving in the sand traps! But the fairways were, for the most part, very nice. Lots of the womens tee boxes had brand new grass. The greens were very nice. The whole design of the course was interesting and challenging. There were really great gps systems in the carts that were very easy to use and to read. They provided helpful hints, kept score, gave directions to the next hole and told us where the bathrooms were. And we need the directions because we often had to cross roads to get to the next hole. Just a very different course! No cart girl that day but nice restaurant at the turn with good food and great service. We all really enjoyed this course and will definitely be back!

The Legends - Moorland, Myrtle Beach

Monday, November 1st, we golfed at The Moorlands. We had rain checks from last year that were good forever so we paid almost nothing to golf. They gave us vouchers for lunch also. The course had a really interesting layout with lots of challenges. We were told it's one of the hardest courses in the US. It was very, very crowded. We did 9 holes in 3 hours! It moved a little better in the back. There was one bathroom that was accessible from holes 8 and 12 (they said it was accessible from hole 3 also but we never even saw it at hole 3!) Although we enjoyed the course very much, there were lots of "problems". The cart girl had nothing to make a spicy bloody mary and didn't offer to get anything - like they have at courses we golf at in Michigan. She was not very friendly to the women. The ranger told us to "keep it moving" even we explained that we were right on top of the guys in front of us. The hot dog at the turn wasn't very good and the guys with us had egg salad which they said was terrible. The one bathroom was nice with a men and womens bathroom. However, the toilet paper dispenser in the women's wouldn't work and neither would the towel dispenser. In fact, when we used the sink, water spewed out from the pipes underneath! BUT, I would like to try golfing here again just because I liked the course itself. Next time, though, I'll bring my own Bloody Mary mixings and probably food too!
