Elk Ridge, Atlanta (Gaylord), MI

We love this golf course. It is one of the prettiest in Michigan and one of the most undiscovered! We've been there twice now and no one has been there (or very few people). It's kind of in the middle of nowhere but well worth the drive. Course was in beautiful conditon both times we were there. There's a really nice par 3 on the first nine and hole 10 is a cool, elevated par 3 with a pig shaped sand trap.  It is very women friendly 5200 yards but provides a challenge to men at 7000, if they want.  There are bathrooms on the course and there is a turn staffed with very nice people and good food.  There is no cart girl or wasn't both times we were there. We didn't see any elk, although we were told they were there, but we did see many deer.  We plan on making this course an annual trip!

Angels Crossing Golf Club, Vicksburg, MI

Bought this deal on groupgolfer.com but it expired.  We couldn't get out there because of the weather.  However we were in the area so we were finally able to get there.  We only had to pay an additional $10 each to golf.  Right at the beginning, the pros:  very nice people, beautiful clubhouse and the cons:  no view of the golf course from the clubhouse.  The course itself is a little drive from the clubhouse, the starter was extremely nice and very proud of the course.  It's almost entirely links style with a few trees.  The starter said cart path only, however there were very few paths and most of them were rocky paths.  The fairways were in nice condition as were the greens. Most of the greens were tricky with pin position in almost impossible positions.  There was water on only one hole but lots of wetlands, bunkers and grassy areas. There was no cart person and no bathrooms, just a couple of port-a-potties.  There were quite a few of well dressed women golfers on the course and I can't believe they used port-a-potties. I didn't so I can't speak to their condition.  My husband really enjoyed the course and would gladly golf there again.  I did like the course but am not really crazy about links style and definitely not crazy about port-a-potties! There is a small "house" between holes 1, 9, and 10 but when we were there, she was up at the clubhouse so we drove up there, went to the bathroom, grabbed drinks and ran to hole 10.  The weekday price is $40 which seems very reasonable for this course.  It was pretty crowded but everything moved well.

Reddeman Farms Golf Club, Chelsea, MI

We bought this golf on this course from groupgolfer.com.  We were told by friends that the course wasn't much...but we were pleasantly surprised.  It is mostly flat with a lot of side by side holes and a little "farm-like".  However, the course was in good condition with some very interesting holes.  The first nine is meadow like while the back nine is more wooded. Hole 4 ends is a par 4 that ends with a green with water behind it. Hole 9 is a par 5 that ends at a large pond you have to hit over to the green.  Although some of the holes are side by side, fairways are wide which means you rarely are in anyone else's fairway.  The greens were tough, mostly hilly with the holes on peaks. There were no bathrooms on the course, just port-a-potties. No cart girl.  The pro shop didn't have a lot in it, I don't know if that's because it was close to the end of the season. The restaurant had a nice outdoor area, however there was a bee's nest right by where we were sitting as well as a bird nest over us.  Food was OK, but service was good.  The guy in the proshop gave us our groupgolfer back and said we could use it again, just pay for $20 for carts.  The driving range was pathetic, irons only and not in really good shape.   Would we do this course again? For $20 definitely...

Stonehedge North, Augusta, MI

We had played Stonehedge South before and like it so we thought we'd try the north this time.  It has more elevated holes than the south and is more grassy. It has some very interesting holes and was in good condition, especially for the time of year. There were bathrooms, however they were not identified. There was no cart girl and no one at the turn - very odd for the this time of year. It is almost 5000 yards for women so that's OK. It is a stay and play place with 3 other courses available. We had stayed there a few years ago and the villas were fine, just a little dated.

Got this deal from Travel Zoo along with a night at the resort from livingsocial.com.  What a great deal! Golf is usually $69/person here and I think I paid about $45 for both of us.  This is a nice course, especially woman friendly.  It was a bit tight with quite a few holes side by side which made it harder for my husband but I hit pretty straight so it was good for me!  It was pretty crowded and the course wasn't real long so we often had to wait to hit our second shot.  The fairways were in good condition, but the tee boxes and greens were a bit rougher.  They were working everywhere probably because of the hard winter we had.  The sand was in good condition and there were quite a few holes where water came into play.  The par 5s weren't very long but the par 3s were very interesting.  We were able to get on the green fairly easily but par was very hard because of the pin placements.  I don't think there was one hole we weren't hitting up or downhill trying to get par.  There was a convenient rest room (quite clean) and snack shop but the snack shop wasn't open.  AND there was no cart person...I don't know why, they would have made a ton of money with all the golfers out there.  We were also pleased that they didn't pair us up with someone.  I would enjoy playing this course again, if I could get a deal.

Golfed here as part of our Bay Harbor package.  Loved this course!  Will definitely golf here again.  The good:  course was in great condition with wide fairways and nice greens. The bad: the mosquitos were awful...we sprayed ourselves, the carts and our bags and we stayed away from the woods where the swarmed you!  The guys weren't so lucky...they were often in or near the woods and were attacked. The weather wasn't really good but we weren't rained on.  I'd love to play this course in nice weather. In fact, there were cottages along one of the holes that looked like really nice places to stay.  There was a lot of variation in the holes, sand, water, trees, ravines, elevations, etc. Another bad thing is we weren't able to golf holes 17 or 18 because they were doing some "remodeling" so I really need to go back!

Bay Harbor Golf Club, Boyne, Bay Harbor, MI

Truly a "bucket list" course.  I'm so happy I was finally able to golf this course, even though it was not a very nice day.  We golfed the Links and the Quarry.  The Links was a bit choppy while the Quarry was very open.  The scenery on both courses was very nice but we had much better views on the Quarry.  The course was in great condition even though we had such a rough winter and spring.  The Links was much more forgiving for women but a little harder for men because they had to be careful of club selection.  The Quarry was much harder for women because the course was actually built in a quarry with a lot of elevations, water and ravines.  Loved both courses.  We never did see a cart girl but that might have been cause the weather was bad.  The staff was really nice and the clubhouse was beautiful.  We didn't eat here but would like to in the future.  It was very expensive to golf here but given the opportunity to golf here again, I would.  I would love to see it on a nice day.

I didn't golf very well so I'd like to golf here on a nicer day and see if it makes a difference.
