Silver Dollar Golf & Gun Club, Tampa, FL

This is the course we started to golf in January but got rained out (stuck in the men's room). I added the "gun" to the name this time because we really could hear the gunshots today! Today was one of the few 5 1/2 hour rounds I have ever done. It is a community in Florida so we followed an older foursome that really held up the entire course. Fortunately, everyone behind us saw what was happening. There are 3 nine holes - the Bobcat, Panther & Gator. We played the Gator & the Panther. The course was pretty flat but there was a lot of water holes that kept it interesting. The fairways were in good condition especially considering the time of year and the greens were OK too, although pretty tough because there were a lot of odd pin placements. Women have a huge advantage here cause our tee boxes were much closer. There was a bathroom on the Gator but I didn't see one on the Panther. The cart girl was around frequently and had hot dogs on her cart! I wouldn't mind playing here again cause I par'd almost every par 3 but it's not a must if I come to Tampa again.

Las Vegas Golf Club, Las Vegas

Golfed here yestereday. If you're looking for a cheap place to golf, this would be one of the places you could go to. As a rule, I don't consider $49 that cheap but for Vegas, it's very cheap. The course says it's the only municipal course in Vegas and the oldest in Vegas. I usually like old courses because they have a lot of character. This course didn't. The fairways were in OK condition but were mostly side by side. There were few sand traps and trees were really spaced. Only one hole had water on it, a nice really short par 3. There were lots of bathrooms and a very pleasant cart girl who came frequently. The greens were in rough condition and the women's tee boxes were rarely flat. It was quite cold and windy this day and there were no windshields on the carts. When we asked the clubhouse if they had windshields, we were told we could buy one by the club pro. I won't go back, not worth it...

Wildhorse, Henderson, NV

This was a really nice course for women...it's a little shorter which makes it a little easier for us. It was a little narrow which made it a little harder for the guys. The fairways and tee boxes were in great condition. The greens could use a little work...there were some mossy areas. The folks here were really nice, the food was good and the bloody marys were spicy. There were nice bathrooms that were easily accessible. The course was interesting with some challenging holes. We booked using twomenwhogolf.com and got a great deal so it was well worth the money.

Brooker Creek Golf Club, Palm Harbor

Golfed here January 13th. It was kind of cold when we started so I got a coffee and baileys from the clubhouse...what a difference from yesterday! A huge coffee with a generous dollop of baileys for $7! Because of the cold, the course lowered the price to $21 which was a great price for this course. It wasn't in the same condition as Lake Jovita (where we played the day before) but what a difference good service makes! I liked the course because I like a course with character and this had plenty of it...old trees, older homes, lots of water. Because of the price, there were more golfers which caused a little slower pace of play than I like but it wasn't too bad. Nice bathrooom on the first 9 and a couple port a potties on the back 9. No cart girl, but I didn't really expect one here in January. The greens were a little rough (some had spots with sand in them!) and the course is really kind of small, about 6000 yards total, but I wouldn't mind playing here again when it's a little warmer!

Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club, Dade City, FL

We golfed here on Tuesday, January 12th. It was a nice course in good condition. However, I will not go back there. On the web it is described as "an upscale master planned community". There are two 18 hole golf courses...we played the north. I was disappointed in the service...I think because we weren't "members" they were kind of dismissive of us. No one told us there wasn't a turn. The cart girl came around at the 2nd hole - I asked if she had coffee and she said no - she had run out and looked at me blankly. When I said well, when you come out again could you get some and put some baileys in it (it was a little chilly), she looked at me blankly again and said oh no, they didn't have bailey's in the grill...that was in the bar. I've golfed at several nice courses where the cart girls run and get what the guests want and bring it out to them, of course for a nice tip. This girl didn't have a clue and we didn't see her again until about the 12th hole. When we asked about what she had to eat, another blank look and oh, I have two sandwiches left. Thank goodness she did, we were starving by then. They did have a bathroom on the course, another thank goodness, and there were a couple of really nice holes but for the most part, I wasn't impressed. Not really worth the price. We were following a foursome that was following another foursome (members) who were really quite slow so it took a long time to complete this course. The course itself was good, I have no complaints there except it was pretty bland...few holes had any character (trees, water, elevation). But it was in fairly good condition.

Silver Dollar Golf Club, Odessa, FL

Started a 3 day golf trip on January 11th in Tampa. This was the first place we golfed. There are 3 nine hole courses here. We were able to golf 7 holes here yesterday before we were rained out. Interesting course - right in the middle of a senior community. It would be unfair of me to judge on just the first 7 holes - we have a raincheck and will come back. However, we were trapped by the storm in the bathroom on the 7th hole for an hour and NO ONE came to check on us. Of course, it was kind of our fault because we didn't go in when it was raining lightly - we thought it would blow over! We did get up close & personal with a hell of a storm though...

Cozumel Golf & Country Club, Cozumel, Mexico

Golfed here on Friday, December 10th, the 5th day of our cruise. Very nice course, but very expensive - $166 plus club rental of $45! But how often to we golf in another country! I don't think it was worth that kind of money but it was a nice course in good condition. Everyone was really nice and helpful. The fairways were narrow with water or jungle on the sides. There were crocodiles so there was no searching for lost balls. And balls at the clubhouse were $10 a sleeve! Lots of iguanas on the course, on the cart path, near the water, even by your golf ball sometimes. There rate of play was good, the fairways in nice condition and the greens really fast. Nice bathrooms and a good cart girl...but at those prices, of course!
